December 2012 End of the World – Mayan Calendar and I Ching Prophecies

As each day passes we are slowly creeping towards the date December 21, 2012.This is the date specifically named by two highly regarded sources to be the date that the world will experience phenomenal change and be affected dramatically. If what they predict ensues, then life on earth post this date may be reduced significantly or indeed will no longer exist. To determine if these end of world prophecies are nothing but hyped up myth or not, we need to look at how reliable the sources are, and then make our own decision.

The Mayan Civilisation – Mayan Calendar

If you have seen the movie 2012 or know only a small amount of what is predicted will happen in 2012, no doubt you have come across the term Mayan Civilisation or Mayan Calendar already. This is one of the most well known prediction sources that has been cited by numerous people as being the most accurate in telling us what the earth has in store for her future.

The Mayans were a people that lived in Central America in the early 6th to 9th centuries. An extremely mathematical and prophetic civilisation, they excelled in culture, written language, art and astronomy also. Devising what they referred to as the Long Count Calendar, further civilisations – such as ours today- rely on the same basic principles.

The Mayans were able to eerily predict the date and year that Cortez would arrive at the Tabasco shore, the New World. their calendar said “white skinned, bearded gods” were coming from across the sea. This was the exact date that Cortez arrived.

What does it say of the date in December 2012? This is the date of the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Mayan calendar ends on this exact date. Their calendar talks of “how the sun will rise in the dark rift of the Milky Way Galaxy” on December 21, 2012.

Checking this prediction against modern day astronomy we know that this is an event that only occurs once in every 25 thousand or so years. It is due to happen again on December 21, 2012.On this day, the earth, sun and the centre of the Milky Way will all align. This alignment was foretold by the Mayan calendar.

When the alignment takes place, it will cause a polar shift, this is where the north and south poles “flip” or change position. This is a cataclysmic event for the Earth. Tsunamis, earthquakes, floods,Volcanoes will all result from this phenomenal change. It is not widely known how many countries or populations could survive through such a massive environmental event.

I Ching or Book Of Changes

Trying to find the exact origin of the I Ching or book of changes has proven to be a challenging task. Its believed that it dates back to about 3000 B.C and was invented by a Chinese Emperor. To give an idea of when this was: The Egyptian Pyramids were thought to have been built one century LATER. The I Ching is regarded as an oracle that is capable of foretelling the future.

Today, many use the I Ching as a source of fortune telling. Its rather complicated to do but a basic overview would be that three coins are tossed, depending on whether the coin throw results in heads or tails, will also determine if it will be represented by a complete or broken line. By tossing the coins six times, and recording the results in complete or broken lines, the results produce what is regarded as a hexagram. This hexagram will appear somewhere in the I Ching and the text pertaining to the exact pattern will reveal an answer to the question asked.

More recently the I Ching was applied when Terrence McKenna adopted it to portray a map of relatively modern times. McKenna’s work was amazingly in depth and incredibly complicated, but his results were eerily accurate. McKenna adapted the I Ching into a form of a graph. What he found was his I Ching graph timelines matched events in our history dating back to around 4000 years ago. McKenna was able to correlate what the I Ching predicted with events such as the Fall of the Roman Emperor, the discovery of the “new world” and more recently World War I and II.

What does the I Ching then say about the date of December 21, 2012? Alarmingly, the news isn’t good. The I Ching graph timeline predicts the end of the world on this date, just as the Mayan Calendar does.
